Peterson on Politics – WikiLeaks
I’ve got to say that when I sat down to write this last one for the day I really couldn’t put what I was feeling into words until I read what Ed Morrissey wrote on Hot Air. There’s really nothing new in this stuff. I read a ton of the WikiLeaks stuff and didn’t find any of the stuff particularly moving. Without hesitation, the blogging lines were drawn and were not out of the ordinary. The Huffington Post’s headline spoke of War Crimes and Politico’s open thread asks if what was leaked counts as treason. Realistically, we already knew that the situation in Afghanistan sucked. We’ve known for years. I’ve written on this before and even though I’m not an international sensation, I’ve only been around for a couple months. The meat of the report is about attacks on NATO troops and other ground level briefs that mean relatively nothing. It’s not even a big deal that they were leaked. It’s not. Information gets leaked all the time and nothing really changes. While we as a nation would much rather not have to deal with this crap, people know that the U.S. is up to just like we know what everyone else is up to. If you honestly believe that the majority of our government secrets are actually kept secret and confidential then you are in denial. On top of that, after reading the Morrissey piece I just don’t think people realize the what actually goes on is not news to those that pay attention and think about the situation. Yes, it is a tragedy that this guy is willing to release classified documents, but it also shows that everyone that pays attention already knows what’s going on. To me, much ado about nothing.
