Looking for Combat Veteran Latina Princess to Start a Business and Family (And two other interesting stories)

I have to mow the lawn this afternoon and I have a couple other stories I want to comment on so in an effort to post something quickly here are three quick takes on stories that I through were of interest.

#1 – Republicans promise to say something of substance. – If you watched last week’s Meet the Press (or read my piece about it) you know that even the most senior members of my beloved party struggle to come up with something other than “we don’t like the Obama agenda either!” and “we’ll go back to growing jobs.” In this article they talk mainly about a group that the Republicans have paid a ton of money too, America Speaking Out, to help them craft their agenda using the internet. (You can read my take on that shit storm here) To be fair, things like this take time and the more the Obama Administration keeps shooting themselves in the foot, the easier it will be for them to not come up with anything or delay their unveiling. But they need to do it at some point and crow it loudly and repeatedly from anywhere they can.

#2 – Americans aren’t the only racists in the world. – With all the talk about racism especially in our wonderfully diverse country, Russia finally elects a black guy! To be fair, like 87% of the people in Russia are white, so this is kind of a big deal to us, with a country who has a terrible record on race relations. The Ruskies don’t even care, really. Every one of the people interviewed in this story say “it’s sensationalism” or “so what? The guy is black. He’s also Russian.” This is a classic example of American guilt because we just can’t let it go.

#3 – Can’t enforce the law? Just pass another one. I think this story is VERY interesting. Mostly because I want to start my own business and make hella money selling stuff to the government. In this article, Lurita Doan describes a bill being pushed through the Senate right now that “promises a 2% increase in small business contracts, but the law already requires 23% of all government contracting to be awarded to small, minority, women and veteran-owned businesses.  Yet, since this law is inconsistently enforced, in 2009, only one government agency met this requirement.” Hilarious. The reason I’m so interested is because imagine if I start a company that was owned jointly by me and my wife, who just so happened to be a Latina who was an injured combat veteran. We’d shoot to the top of every list of government small business contracts. I wouldn’t have to work ever again. I would just have to have the minority ownership, but since we’re talking about my wife, our family just rakes in the profit. So if there are any ladies out there who are of Hispanic decent, are a combat veteran of the U.S. Armed Services and want to start a business and have a boyfriend, look me up on facebook and let’s see if we don’t click.
