Today in a Word: Bleh

In an attempt to start my weekend early (and finish some much heralded Business Finance homework for tomorrow) we’ve got good news and bad news out there today and I just wanted to hit on the four stories that I think are noteworthy.

#1 – WE CAPPED THE WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   In all estimations this thing was supposed to be gushing oil into our world until AUGUST. We’ve bested that time by TWO WEEKS! That’s awesome news. Now, in all hope that we can continue to keep the thing from leaking again, we can focus the rest of our R&D efforts on cleaning the stuff up. I know things are happening down in the Gulf, but I just haven’t heard about it. The news business is too busy chasing around 19 year old barefoot plane thieves. Seriously we need to get a life.

#2 – The iPhone 4 sucks, but Steve Jobs is going to fix it. I don’t know much about Apple because I’m a PC, but I do own an iPad and one of the biggest selling points for me was the ever touted level of customer service the Apple provides. I have do doubt that they will fix this problem too and set things right with their customers simplybecause that’s what they do. I also think that they realize the elasticity that is now in the “smart phone” market will crush them if they don’t.

#3 – We are on the eve of the biggest overhaul of the financial sector in a long, long time and Obama doesn’t seem to be slowing down. He just keeps on moving and I have no doubt in my mind that over the next two years we are going to see a passage of everything else that Candidate Obama promised he would do. Why would he stop? I even think he will do it with Republicans in control of the House, if they end of taking the House back, which is still up for debate. The uncertainty of everything is what is bringing everyone down. The uncertainty accompanied with a stagnant economy makes an awful combination and makes these reforms even tougher to swallow as an American. I don’t remember people putting up a big fuss about changes when we were going through the Boom under Bush, but now that we’re in a slump no one wants to do anything until we recover, well, I’m sorry that the world doesn’t work like that and especially with government they have so many branches and ways of addressing issues 6 million things can get done at the same time. It’s why Congress is able to question people about steroids in baseball and still pass a budget at the end of the year. It’s also one of the reasons McCain lost the election and Obama won. Obama was able to juggle 16 different things, but when the economy was about to collapse, McCain suspended his campaign and went back to Washington. That’s why he lost and that’s why I still don’t fully agree with the Republican strategy, but we shall see.

#4 – Alvin Greene gets his action figure. When Alvin Greene speaks the world listens and obeys. A couple weeks ago Alvin “The Dream” Greene was reported to have offered the economic stimulating plan of making and selling action figures in his likeness. A Minor League baseball team in South Carolina are going to do a promotional night for the Democratic Nominee for U.S. Senate doing just that. I couldn’t be happier. This is the American Dream. This is Alvin Greene’s Dream. This is one of the most awesome things I’ve ever heard. Now, I need one. Either someone needs to send me one or send me a link to the eBay auction. I need one and I need it as soon as possible to ad to my collection of awesomeness. Thank you.

Everyone have a great weekend and try to get some sun, but wear sunscreen.
